Join ALPHA, the advanced science program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who share your passion for the scientific world. Here, you'll discover Sciences like Physics and Biology through real scientific papers and hands-on experiments. You'll also take your first steps in Computing, seeing how engineers and scientists use technology to solve complex problems and learning to code like them. You'll also learn techniques to study better and learn more effectively. And the best part? You'll do all this surrounded by peers and mentors who share your interests!

program overview

ALPHA is an extracurricular science and engineering program by the TreeTree2 association. Specially designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. It runs in quarters, with weekly sessions on Saturdays, combining in-person and online meetings.

how it works

1

Self-Paced Learning

1 hour weekly of independent online study with videos, texts, and quizzes

2

Collaborative Session

2.5 hours on Saturdays with instructors and peers (in-person or online)

3

Program Structure

11 weeks per quarter, 6 quarters total (2 years)

a campus of excellence as your classroom

ALPHA benefits from the institutional hosting of Instituto Superior Técnico, where in-person sessions take place. As a nonprofit organization dedicated to science education, TreeTree2 developed this program with a team that includes many IST students and recent graduates. This unique collaboration offers:

Learning Spaces

Experience studying at a leading science and technology university campus from an early age

Close Mentorship

Instructors who are university students passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge

Special Lectures

Occasional meetings with IST researchers who share their cutting-edge work

goals and objectives

Explore Science

Foster students' natural curiosity through a practical and interactive approach to studying Sciences like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Encourage exploration of new knowledge and development of a deep understanding of scientific phenomena.

Master Mathematics and Computing for Science

Develop an early solid foundation in Mathematics that allows students to explore advanced areas like Physics and Engineering. In Computing, go beyond basic programming and take first steps in using computers like real scientists and engineers do.

Build Autonomy and Resilience

Teach study techniques and effective learning strategies that enable students to learn more independently. Encourage self-assessment, emotional regulation, and resilience in challenging situations, promoting self-confidence and critical thinking.

Build Relationships and Community

Foster a collaborative environment where students can meet peers with similar interests and build lasting friendships. Promote teamwork and idea exchange to enrich the learning process, creating a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Prepare for the Future

Equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Inspire them to explore new opportunities and consider careers in scientific and technological fields, stimulating a continuous desire to learn and innovate.

unique features

Innovative and Integrated Learning

At ALPHA, students dive into topics they won't find in other programs. From analyzing real scientific papers to advanced Computing—like algorithms, artificial intelligence, and scientific simulations—ALPHA offers a unique experience combining science, mathematics, and humanities in a practical and thorough way.

Personalized Support

Each group of six students has constant support from a dedicated instructor, ensuring personalized attention adapted to each student's learning pace. This format allows content and methods to be adjusted to students' specific needs, ensuring efficient and balanced progression.

Hybrid and Flexible Methodology

Combining the best of in-person and online teaching, ALPHA uses a hybrid model that maximizes flexibility and learning effectiveness. Students benefit from interactive in-person sessions and online sessions that allow for autonomous and flexible study.
